The 10th Brugg Ultra

23/24 September 2017

Glorious weather made for ideal running conditions, for, athletes, relay runners, support crews, and spectators.

Fredi and Dorothea have now staged their events for now 10 years. This is quite an achievement, as very few Ultra events survive for a decade.

However, theirs has continued to develop, and an increase in young runners taking part in the relay races. has brought added atmosphere to the whole event. Now there are 3 "serious" events, 6, 12, and 24 hour.

The 24 hour Women's race produced a clear winner, with Saara Mtkkanen from SWE, covering 172.417km. In the Men's 24 hour, Simon Schmid from SUI (a local hero), won with 212.875km, eventually holding off the challenge if Hannes Viede from Estonia, who with 208.829km was less than a lap behind Simon.

In the Women's 12 hour, it was another very close run thing, with Helen James GBR covering 114.972km, to win by less than a lap from Juana Vasella GER on114.329km . The men had a clear winner with Wolfgang Metzger GER covering 102.728km. Interesting that the first two Women were ahead of the first Man.

The 6 hour Women's winner was Verga Gabriella SUI with 43.018km. The Men's winner with a very impressive 82.071km, which may be an new ESP age group (M23) record.

94 year old Albert Stricker covered 24.304km.

The Swiss 24 hour Championship were incorporated in this year's race.
